Hey all! Sorry it’s been a while. Many things have happened in the past few months and I’ve sort of been riding the wave until it all settled out.
So here’s what’s new: I have two new, wonderful jobs. Gerrit got a year-long position in Napa. The new apartment Caitlin and I moved into in February is *almost* complete. I started school. Well, prerequisites but close enough.
After a month of applying to jobs, I was getting antsy. With few phone screens and first rounds, I was starting to worry I might never be employed again (ridiculous, I know) or have to take a job I only medium liked just to be doing something.
Turned out, that was pretty silly and I not only got offered a variable tasting room position at Silver Oak, but also the brand new Marketing Coordinator position at Bottle Barn to essentially build my own department. Immediately after of course, the interview requests flooded in and I was thankful I had already landed the perfect position.
And truly, it is pretty darn perfect for me at this point in my life. I get to create content and try out new marketing strategies for one of the most incredible liquor stores (I believe) in the country. I get to learn every day by working with some of the best minds in the business and trying lots of new wine. I get to see a completely different side of the industry from production, and truly learn what it takes to get a wine from the vine into someone’s hands.
My weekend job isn’t bad either. I get to teach people about wine and pour them some of the best Napa has to offer. The team is beyond rad and it’s a company I’m proud to work for. As much as I love it, I don’t know how much time I’ll be able to dedicate to it with school and everything else, but I know I’ll do my best.
The apartment is perfect. Great location, great neighbors, and best of all, I’m finally in a space of my own again with someone my age. I’m so lucky to have met Caitlin after living our parallel lives, and can’t wait till our boos finally enter the country.
School has been interesting. So far, I’ve almost completed Foundations of Marketing, which was one class two nights a week and turned out to be a hybrid (mostly online). So we met, did six online modules, and met again for final presentations, final review and the exam. Tl;dr four week courses are insanity.
Next up is the double whammy of Finance and Accounting, both of which I need to pass with a B or better to officially get into the program so send all the good vibes you’ve got.
Anyway, that’s all for now. I’m a wee bit busy and it’s only going to get busier!
